Finding your way forward with empathy and understanding
We are all living through challenging and uncertain times and in the midst of these we experience our personal struggles in our day-to-day lives and carry wounds and burdens from the past. This can have a big impact on our mental health and wellbeing. We can feel overwhelmed, confused, stuck, frustrated, angry or sad or carry a sense of shame and guilt.
Perhaps you are feeling that things are getting on top of you, feeling anxious or depressed. You may be trying to juggle work and family responsibilities or feeling alone and disconnected or that you don't fit in, and lacking purpose or motivation. You may be experiencing relationship or family issues, social anxiety, bereavement and loss, the effects of trauma, life changes and transitions, or health challenges. You may want to explore changes in identity and sense of self and find new meaning.
Looking after your mental health is really important and self-care is not selfish. It enables us to develop resilience and equips us to support others more effectively. Speaking to a qualified, registered counsellor is a good way to begin this process.

I'm Annabelle Clarke, a qualified integrative counsellor and member of the BACP, British Psychological Society and BABCP. With over ten years' NHS experience, I support adults through individual counselling, both short and long term.
I offer a calm, warm, supportive space, working at your own pace to focus on what is important to you, process your thoughts and feelings, develop new perspectives and greater self-awareness. We will work together to explore how certain patterns may have developed from your past experiences and whether some of these may be usefully adapted, and how to develop new skills and resources for yourself.
As an integrative counsellor, the main modalities which form the foundation of my approach are person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic and relational. I also have experience supporting neurodivergent clients.
Counselling offers you a confidential space to pause and focus on yourself, your experiences and what you need. In our sessions, I'll listen without judgment and seek to understand your situation with empathy and compassion. We may explore how past experiences continue to influence you today, notice patterns that keep you feeling stuck, and identify helpful ways of managing difficult thoughts and feelings.
My role is not to give advice or tell you what to do, but to support you in making sense of your experience, developing greater self-awareness, and discovering your own path towards a richer and more meaningful life.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, from everyday stress and relationship challenges to more complex issues around identity, loss and change. Many people come to counselling when they're feeling anxious, low or overwhelmed, when life transitions feel particularly difficult, or when they're seeking to understand themselves better.
I have particular experience supporting people with depression, anxiety and physical health challenges, having worked for over ten years in the NHS. I also work with trauma, bereavement, shame, neurodiversity, and issues around sexual identity and relationships. Whatever has brought you here, I can adapt my approach to meet your individual needs.
I offer counselling sessions at two locations in Sussex, as well as online and by telephone.
I work with clients from across the local area and beyond. Many of my clients come from Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill, Hassocks, Brighton, Lindfield, Cuckfield and the surrounding villages. I also see clients from further afield in East and West Sussex, including Uckfield, Hurstpierpoint, Ditchling, Newhaven, Seaford and Eastbourne.
For those who prefer not to travel or who live outside the area, online and telephone sessions offer the same supportive, confidential space from wherever feels most comfortable for you.
Sessions are usually held on a weekly basis, though we can discuss what frequency works best for you. Payment is required in advance of each session and can be made by bank transfer. I'll provide my bank details when we arrange your first appointment.
I keep a small number of reduced-fee spaces available for students and those experiencing financial difficulties. If cost is a barrier to accessing counselling, please get in touch to discuss what might be possible.
I understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes you may need to cancel or rearrange a session. I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to change an appointment. If you cancel with less than 48 hours' notice, or are unable to attend your session, the full session fee will still be payable.
Thank you for considering getting in touch. Taking the first step towards counselling can feel significant, and I appreciate you reaching out. Whether you have questions or you would like to arrange an initial consultation, I'd be happy to hear from you.
You can also call me on 07990 907495 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first.
I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours. I look forward to hearing from you and exploring whether we might work well together.
